I want to appear for GATE 2017 and also in IES exam afterwards in Electronics and Communication engineering. But the fact is that since I am employed under a Govt. organization I am lacking full time preparation as done by regular candidates. Therefore, please recommend me a single hand book for taking up my preparations so as to crack the said exams with satisfactory cut offs.
Hello abhijnan,
Both exams are all India level competitive exam. So you need to prepare for both exam separately. However almost 50% syllabus of both exam is common if we talk about EC branch.
It is not possible to define a single book for both exam. If there is any such book then everyone will buy that book and clear GATE & IES easily.
I can provide you list of books along with reference books & guide for GATE & IES exam preparation with EC branch. Please follow below link.

Hello sir
Iam srinivas from mechanical stream
When i got to know through upsc that the syllabus has beem changed, i got confused when i compared new and old syllabus of ESE
In technical paper 1 subjects there are somany topics excluded for example in
Fluid mechanics: boundary layer theory, dimensional analysis
Power plant: nozzles and diffusers, nuclear power production
Simillarly in paper 2
Topics like power screws, principal stresses, mohr’s circle, belts, chains, rope drives, struts and columns, helical springs, cotters, keys etc..as these topics are nowhere mentioned in the new syllabus
My question is whether one can expect questions on excluded topics in the ese2017 or not ?
Iam thankful if i get response to my mail id: [email protected]
Thanks for ur support and encouragement
Hello Srinivas,
No you will not see any question from the topics which are excluded in new IES syllabus.

Refer me books for two new subject of ESE-ME-renewable energy and mechatronics and robotics.
i am currently pursuing B.Tech in instrumentation and Control . So in which i will be able to give IES exam ?
Is 60 % aggregate in B.E the eligibility criteria to become an IES officer ? During personality test do the panelist reject candidates if they have less than 60 % aggregate even if the pass in first two stages ? Because my aggregate in B.E is 59.6 %.

Hi,
Now it is official that UPSC has changed the pattern of IES 2017. Can anyone guide me to prepare for IES 2017, i am electronic student. Because the syllabus has changed like:
*digital communication, VLSI, Basics of Electrical Engineering, topics like OSI, TCP/IP, etc is added,
*Analog and digital circuits are combined together, similarly VLSI, signal & system, Microprocess & controller & embedded under single unit
*basic network theorems are excluded. still some more changes which i didnt mentioned here..
After analyzing all these things, i am confused now where to start my preparation… Pls help me
Hello rahul,
Yes there are few topic which UPSC added in new IES syllabus for IES 2017. But those topic are few so you must first prepare topic/subjects which are same in IES old and new syllabus. As time passes top coaching institutes will provided study material for new topic/subjects and also suggest some good books for those topics/subjects. You can prepare them at that time. In this way you will not waste your precise time of IES 2017 exam preparation.
Here we will also provide required books name and some study material as per new syllabus but after some time.

Dear sir,
Is reading of these books you have described here is sufficient to prepare gate and ies examination. Second main question is that the syllabus described by both exam gate and IES is exact… means if we will cover each and every point of described syllabus then is it possible to get top rank in gate and ies, please inform me i have only one year to do so….
Hello Amandeep,
These are reference books list prepared by experienced person in this field. Book reference vary person to person.
Selection doesn’t depend upon number of books it depends upon your dedication towards study and your approach.
GATE & IES syllabus is actually combination of your 4 years of engineering.
So here you can calculate yourself how you are going to read all those subject in just one year.
Syllabus defined by GATE n UPSC is actually a compressed form of a file. So you need to expand it.
Which would only possible when you study well and alot. You will know the secret of GATE & IES syllabus automatically.
Syllabus provided here are as per GATE & IES official notification.
Feel free to ask if you need any help in future & join us @ Google+ / Facebook for getting regular updates.
nice book list. thanks for such an extensive book list.
Thanks ravi for appreciating our work.
Sir is pattern of ies 2016 is changed if yes wt it Is exactly n got eassier dn previous or diff
Hello Sonu,
New pattern of IES is still not notified officially by UPSC. So till then follow syllabus given in IES 2015 notification.
If UPSC going to change IES pattern in 2016 then they need to notify candidates before 6-8 months of exam abt changes in pattern.

How to i read made easy hand written notes for civil engineering gate?
Hello Bhagirath,
Notes are designed for guidance you cant be sure by just following notes.
Follow notes if it is written as per syllabus and written well.
But always study from books bcz examiner is not going to design paper from your coaching notes.
First solve previous 20-30 years GATE paper then you will have a good idea about GATE paper pattern.
After that use both notes and books combine for study.
